YAQUA
Efficient Microbiological Water Quality Control
for the Oil and Gas Industry
About
In many industries—especially oil and gas—water is essential for processes such as injection and cooling. High concentrations of viable microorganisms can cause corrosion, clogging, and product degradation, resulting in costly downtime and maintenance.
Conventional methods such as plate counting, microscopy, or PCR are time-consuming and require complex laboratory setups. They are not ideal for fast decision-making in field operations.
The industry demands a rapid, reliable, and portable system to measure microbial activity without depending on specialized laboratories or long incubation periods.
YAQUA is based on detecting microbial redox metabolism—a universal biological process present in all living organisms. This approach directly measures microbial activity, providing quick and accurate results.
Unlike ATP-based systems, YAQUA requires minimal operator handling. Its internal control system automatically performs sample preparation, incubation, and signal measurement, reducing human error and simplifying operations.
All components—electronics, fluidics, incubator, potentiostat, and custom electrode cartridge—are contained within a single compact case. Designed for field use, YAQUA can be easily transported and operated anywhere.
YAQUA delivers microbial quantification in a fraction of the time compared to conventional methods, allowing for real-time monitoring and faster decision-making.
Automation and optimized reagent use significantly lower per-sample costs, making YAQUA ideal for frequent or large-scale testing in industrial environments.
The system minimizes plastic waste and reagent use, aligning with modern sustainability goals and reducing environmental impact during routine monitoring.
Technology
A Novel Detection Principle
YAQUA is built upon the measurement of microbial redox metabolism — a universal biological process that reflects the overall activity of viable microorganisms. Instead of relying on ATP detection or cell growth, YAQUA quantifies the electrochemical changes generated when microorganisms metabolize redox mediators. These reactions produce a measurable electrical signal directly proportional to the total viable microbial concentration.
Integrated and Automated System
The YAQUA device combines electronics, fluidics, and electrochemical sensing in a single portable unit. Samples are automatically filtered, washed, incubated with redox mediators, and analyzed through an amperometric detection process. All operations, calculations, and data processing are handled internally, minimizing user intervention and ensuring high repeatability.
Precision, Speed, and Sustainability
Thanks to its automated workflow and optimized chemical design, YAQUA provides accurate results in significantly less time than traditional laboratory methods. Its reduced reagent consumption and minimal use of disposable plastics make it an environmentally responsible solution for continuous microbial monitoring across industrial applications.
